Drive shaft??

Hi all my fathers car Renault scenic was leaking gearbox oil when i had a look there was gearbox oil all over the floor under his car i brought it home to have a look i got the car up on ramps and there was only a small bit of oil underneath so i cleaned it up refilled the gearbox replaced the screw and the rubber and drove the car round for a while parked the car up and looked at it again a hour later and nothing not a drop so i checked the drive shaft as a new one was put on in a garage around 6 months ago due to a split in the boot and leaking gearbox all every were but when i had a look at it i turned the drive shaft a few times and what confused me was the boot was not turning (the boot at the gearbox) it could just me me but i thought it was meant to turn with the drive shaft ???
