Racism!!!

Everyone seems to be in such a hurry to scream 'racism' these days.

A customer asked, "In what aisle could I find the Irish sausages?"

The assistant asks, "Are you Irish?"

The guy, clearly offended, says, "Yes I am, but let me ask you something...

If I had asked for Italian sausage, would you ask me if I was Italian?

Or if I had asked for German Bratwurst, would you ask me if I was German?

Or if I asked for a kosher hot dog would you ask me if I was Jewish?

Or if I had asked for a Taco, would you ask if I was Mexican?

Or if I asked for Polish sausage, would you ask if I was Polish?"

The assistant says, "No, I probably wouldn't."

The guy says, "Well then, just because I asked for Irish sausage, why did you ask me if I'm Irish?"

The assistant replied, "Because you're in Halfords."

How can I turn the built in Sat Nav off in our Lacuna?

Hello Everyone,

we have recently bought a 2nd hand Renault Lacuna and for some unknown reason the Built in Sat Nav light won't go off.

Can anyone please tell us how to turn it off?

Elaine had tried to it by starting the engine, waiting a while and then turning it off again and shutting the door but it is still on.

God Bless you and yours,

DPF, 1.6dci and short journeys

Hi,

Hope I've posted this in the right place. My SiL is looking for a used scenic. Her problem is that the vast majority of scenics are diesels, yet most of her motoring is stop-start in London traffic with only the occasional longer trip. Conventional wisdom suggests to me she should steer clear of diesels for this reason, which in practice would mean she'd get the 1.6 VVT engine about which i've read nothing but bad things, because I can't find one with a TCE engine for love or money. However I read on Honest John's website that the 1.6 dci would be OK for this kind of motoring. See...

http://ift.tt/1y8vnLT

Before taking this advice at face value I'd be interested in your 2nd opinion; would the 1.6 dci be a good bet or should she settle for the 1.6 VVT? I found a copy of the scenic's handbook however it didn't seem to offer any advice.

Thanks in anticpation

2015 trafic woes

Well bit the bullet and traded my 07 trafic dci for the brand new 1.6 dci. Love it.

Except! Twice now I've been parked up in a layby on left and gone to turn right into trafic only to discover no power steering for a few seconds then it's back again!!! It's just back from a weeks Holiday at the dealer. No fault found. Ideas experts please

1.4 rt 8v engine

Hi, I am interested in buying a mk2 phase 1 98 clio 1.4rt, it s in great condition except the engine. The owner is saying it has a blown head gasket, what are the odds of that on these engines? and could it be something simpler and he is mistaken? i remember on my r5 everyone was telling me it was a gasket failure when all it was the spacer thing that has water passing in it under the carb was deformed or something, so can this 1.4 have something similar? I know it s not carb but similar symptoms to blown gasket but isn t a gasket?

If it is the gasket what are the chances that the head isn t damaged?and can be a simple gasket swap?

Where is the fuel filter

Sorry asking so many questions, have tried to find and buy a manual but for my model they don't do one.

Looking for the fuel filter on a grand scenic 2006 2l petrol. Is it down by the right rear wheel arch?

Thanks

2000 Clio 2, 1.2 16 valve

The engine on my clio overheats and the temp gauge fluctuates around the middle of the dial indicating that the fan is going on and of, also the heater does not work. I think this could possibly be either the thermostat not working or the water pump.

I favour the pump as the top hose gets much hotter than the bottom one which I assume shows the thermostat is opening. I would be gratful if someone could confirm this.

Happy New Year

I know its early but not sure I will be able to get on later (or in a fit state anyway :d) so just wanted to wish you ALL the very best for the New Year..

2004 1.9dc1 120bhp Laguna Sport Tourer

Sorry for this post but wanted to post in Laguna forum but I do not have privileges.

Any way Many years ago when I first bought my Laguna I noticed when driving to or from work early in the morning an a very cold/frosty day that my clutch would slip under harsh acceleration but only in higher gears. After reading some post I put it down to the new clutch types being used.

I do not drive much these days but have not had any such problems for years on till yesterday. We went down to south wales via the scenic routes and when the temperature dropped to 0 or below the clutch started slipping again. On the way back when it had warmed up it was ok again. Has anyone else had any such problems similar to these?

Hello all. I have joined to do some digging about and learn a bit about renault vans. I currently have a broken transit and am considering a change to a master. I shall go digging about and see what I can learn. Last renault I owned was 8 or 9 years ago when I had a Clio dci 55 as my first car. It wrecked a fuel pump after about 60k miles!!

Rear Heated Windscreen Delay

Hi guys, this is my first post.

I have a Laguna II DCI and have a strange issue with the rear heated windscreen. When i start the car in the morning and press the rear windscreen heater button, the orange light comes on. However it takes 20 minutes before the heater jumps into life (i hear the quiet click as it turns on). Its the same every journey. Any simple way to solve the issue?

thanks in advance

Intoduction and possible purchase

Hi Renault lovers, merry Christmas and happy new year! :d

Perhaps you can help, me and the missus are going to look at a 1998 renault clio 1.2 tomorrow, if it looks good, we will be purchasing the car.

I need the experts opinion on these cars and the usual signs to look out for :o I currently drive a 4x4 which is a lot different from what we are going to see, needless to say I am used to noises and clonks :p

From what I can gather on the net, crank position sensors can give up the ghost, along with coolant sensor faults. Anything to pay attention to?

Thanks in advance and I hope nobody is working too hard this time of year :d

Renault trafic gearbox cable

Hey does anyone know where to get a cheaper cable for the gearbox than from main dealers? ?

Renault Kangoo Engine Mounts, How Many?

Hi Everyone, I will be installing my replacement engine within the next couple of days, I bought this little van with no egine in it, one problem I have is there only seems to be the top left engine mount and no other, this seems odd to me can anyone tell me how many engine mounts a 1.5 dci has, surely there must be a lower one, I have two on the gearbox, but only one for the engine.

also does anyone have the torque werench settings for the Crankshaft pulley? I have put a new belt and roller on but dont have the torque wrench setting, best wishes

2008 megane cc headlights/electrics

Hi guys, Im hoping someone here can point me in the right direction.

I have a great, clean low mileage (28000) 2008 megane 1.6 cc with some issues.

Firstly, the car seems to be having issues starting in the morning (a few clicks before engine starts) but then seems fine when its going, with the exception of yesterday, when it cut out at 80 mph on the motorway. Luckily it restarted without me having to do anything/press start.

The second issue is that the headlights have stopped working today. sidelights, hazards, fogs, indicators all fine!

the bulbs were new 2 weeks ago, but cant rule out they have blown until I inspect in daylight tomorrow.

any ideas?

thanks very much

Jon

Clio DCI 2004 Light fault

Hi,

The clio has a fault.

The rear fog light on the dash lights up when you put your foot on the brake or use the indicators.

ive checked the bulbs and they seem fine.

i even took the rear lights to bits and they are all fine and corrosion free.

If you take the brake light bulbs out then put your foot on the bake its fine.

If you switch on the rear fog light it works and if i put my foot on the brake whilst its on the dash lights stay as they should with no fault.

Any help would be great.

Canbus sidelights?

How do I find out if my 2005 mk2 clio extreme 4 has canbus sidelights?

I'm looking at getting LED sidelights to go with my blue dipped xenons but don't know if my sidelights have the canbus system or not.

2003 Clio, Headlights gone opaque

kangoo electric power steering intermittent at ignition

I have the misfortune and having a 2003 1.9 dci kangoo trekka and for a while it has not had the power steering start at ignition. Restart the ignition and it usually does then start. I'm having a few other problems with rough running and not starting lately and this has exacerbated the non starting of the power steering. Husband is wondering if it's something to do with the relay. Has anyone else had a similar issue. Steering never cuts out once running. Fluid is topped up and clear.

Air in return diesel pipe 1.5 dci

Hi

2004 1.5 dci scenic 2

Bought as non runner cambelt snapped

All now running but......

Car starts first time from cold or warm

Will tick over just fine

Take it for a run and temp fine, acceleration fine but every now and again injection fault and stop light flashes and then goes out.

Cleared all historic codes and P0089 is displayed once and nothing else despite perhaps 6 flashes over 15 mile run. If nothing was displayed, you wouldn't know something had happened.

Look at clear fuel pipes going into and out of pump, solid fuel into pump, return shows a consistent 1 inch air bubble and very irregular burst of fine bubbles.

Replaced metal pipes from distribution point plus pump pipe. Replaced fuel filter. Replaced copper injector washers, glow plugs were renewed before I purchased car. Car has had cambelt, tensioner, water pump, aux belt, battery, oils, secondhand cylinder head, gasket set, bolts, lot!

I'm assuming the air bubbles are causing some sort of misfire as a guess

But help, anyone seen this before or got clues where to look from her Eyes?

Help!

New 2005 Renault Laguna II owner

Hi all, I'm Trevor and have never owned a Renault before but have just purchased a 2005 Renault Laguna 2.0 Dynamique with 115k on the clock.

Don't really know what to expect from it but as long as its reliable I'll be happy :d

Can anyone tell me where the pollen filter is?

On a 2006 petrol 2L grand scenic

What car should it be?

I have just purchased a Y reg 1.4l petrol Scenic at a suitable low price, delivered to my door. I am fairly familiar with this variant.

The problem is that I have found it has a 1.6l (K4M 7/00) engine and gearbox (with white 5th gear cover), which themselves don't seem to fit together correctly, The flywheel is much too thick! And the clutch slips. The DVLA registration search reports just 'Renault NaN', and it is registered (01-01-2001) and newly taxed as a 1390 vehicle. I cannot check the engine number until the V5 is returned.

Now it is a 'nice car' and I have a spare Scenic from which I can recover all the required parts for re-build.

The question here is, if I give the VIN number can someone verify that it should indeed be a 1.4l, with air con and alloy wheels? (Scenic sport I believe). The engine ECU will be correct only for the correct combination.

Bonnet Release nor working

Hi l have a Renault Megane Tourer 2006,

The Bonnet release handle will not work, any ideas would be most welcome.

Screen wiper's

Hi I own a 2010 Scenic and my wipers have suddenly decided to go haywire! the passenger side wiper moves into the up position then stays parked in that position whilst the drivers side wiper only works intermittently and I have to turn the wipers off/on to get both wipers to re-set into standard position then again, only the drivers side wiper works!

I am having to go through this charade every time it rains currently as I haven't got the time or money until the new year to take it to Renault which I am hoping won't cost me the earth!

wheel arch liner fittings

Can anyone tell me how many screws are holding the wheel arch liner on my 99 Megane Coupe, drivers side. I have located one torx screw just above the mud guard, but removing this does not allow the liner to be moved. Speaking of the mudguard, the screws on this are beyond standard removal and it does seem that one of these may also be fastening the liner. My only option here it seems will be cutting away these screws, and removing mud guard.

I was intending to replace these any way so not a big deal to get rid of them. Assuming this is done, are there any more fixings on the liner ? I do know that there are 2 sections, but its just the one closest to foot well that concerns me.

Hard to imagine that something so trivial can cause such annoyance

Fuel gauge going up and down

My battery on my 2004 laguna 2004 1.9 dci died I assume due to the cold weather, I called out AA and they got the car started instantly, I let it run for around 30 mins then went to take it for a spin, this is when I noticed my fuel gauge bouncing between 0 and 1/4 tank. I know the last time I used it the fuel gauge was sitting on just under 1/4 tank and when I start the car it still sits there, it's when I start to drive it seems to take on a mind of it's own, but the fuel warning light doesn't come on. Any ideas? I have very little mechanical knowledge.

Grand Scenic Under Passenger Seat Connector Help.

Hi,

I have just started soldering the 52 pin connector under the passenger seat, but the previous owner obviously had issues and has chopped some of the wires.

If any body has a picture of the connector or can take a picture so I can confirm that the 8 wires that have been chopped are correct.

Its the male side of the connector, pins 10 - 18, 19 - 22 and 36 - 40

Many thanks.

2010 clio 1.2 tce, wheres the engine code?

hi all, was hoping someone could help with this problem. i have had a good look for the engine code and cannot for the life of me find it, had a good look all around the engine and cant see anything resembling a number plate, or lettering,

the reason im doing this is that im due a service and need new spark plugs. the plugs have never been changed (at 45000miles now) and are due for replacement. the garage want to charge £70 so ive decided to buy my own but ebay etc all state to make sure you have the right engine number etc as there is many variants and i need the right plug...

on another note, i have had my car serviced at the same garage for the last 3 years and obviously havnt had the plugs changed would it be cheeky to ask for discount on these spark plugs as they have allways charged me full price for a service and have never had to change the plugs, how much is s set of normal plugs? i feel i should be entitled to some sort of discount

thanks in advance

I have had my megane 2009 plate 1.5dci coupe since march and was originally getting 64mpg on my commute to work, since getting 2 new front tyres this dropped to 60.In the last week I can only get 53mpg and its confusing me as I drive the same route to work at 8:30pm,the car was service 3 weeks ago with no problems and i fill up at the same garage with the same amount every week.I check my tyre pressures every couple of days and there is nothing out of the ordinary, the brakes have just been checked and arent sticking. What could be the problem or is it just the cold weather?

scenic 2003, not starting help please.

Hi all, this is my first post on here as it is not my car but my girlfriends that is playing up. Ok the story, she drove the car from Bristol to landsend before Christmas to visit family, she said on the way down the glow plug light flashed a couple of times.

It is a 2003 1.9dci scenic.

The following day it would not start, it has been recovered back here and after having a look I cannot see anything obvious. I have checked fuses all ok.

The glow plug light is not on when I put ignition on, it only has red engine light, oil light and battery light on.

The fault is it just turns over but does not start, low pressure pump is working no bubbles in fuel pipes.

The breakdown man that went out to her mentioned something about the ecu not waking up and he had to run a new wire on another car he seen with the same fault,

Sorry my first post is soo long and help much appreciated :)

Hi there, new Renault owner.

Modus - Timingbelt

I have just purchased a 2005 Modus 1.4 petrol.

76,000 miles. Good service history but no proof of the timing belt being changed.

I am told it has been but no paperwork or stamps to prove it.

Advice please.....

Pay £340 and have it done to be on the safe side or is there a way I can tell if it needs doing ?

Many thanks

Renault Trafic 'FAP pipe'

Hi,

The DPF light came on last week and the SERV light came on a few seconds afterward. Van went into limp mode.

Went for a late night 60min blast on the motorway, constant revs, 70mph, but lights stayed on. After reading all the horror stories online, decided to bight the bullet and contact local dealer.

Saw them this morning. Apparently they 'Cleared FAP pipe' (word-for-word on invoice and FAP is french for DPF i've found).

Guy explains that it's a plastic/rubber pipe part of the layout and it had collapsed which was choking the system and triggering the sensor/lights/limp etc.

Filter itself is fine. There was only 22g of soot in filter which after 7 years and 65K miles was fine. Can go as bad as 90g I'm told.

They quoted £280 for a replacement 'pipe'. (which coincidentally is the price of a new DPF I find).

After checking with them that I'm not going to do damage if it re-occurs any time soon, I left it at that for now to do some of my own research). Just the £45 diagnosis paid.

Left dealer, no lights, van back to normal. Great I thought !

5 minutes later, lights returned and limp mode back.

I've been searching online for ages, trying to understand what part platsic/rubber pipe plays in an hot exhaust system! No joy.

Can anyone shed any light on what 'pipe' they are talking about?

Many thanks.

Scenic II Dashboard Removal Help Please!

Hello. I am new to the forum. I'm looking to find the best way to remove the top of the dashboard on my 2003 Scenic II, in order to get at the screws/clips holding the blower motor and/or housing in place. I already have the glovebox and lower dash removed (as suggested in other posts) but am unable to reach up enough to release the motor. (Probably due to my lack of dexterity and big clumsy hands!)

I have already replaced the resistor pack (behind instrument cluster) and have tested both old and new blower motors to verify that the motor is fubarred!

Many thanks in advance

Jason

Any idea?

Megane clutch not disengaging fully?

Hello,

I have a 2004 Megane Expression 1.5dci.

Near 100k on the clock.

Problem 1)

Hard to put into gear when stationary (I think is down to problem 2) and a bit tricky to put in 1st/2nd when moving.

Problem 2)

When the car is in gear and clutch is fully pressed, if I release the brakes, the car will very slowly move forward as though the clutch is still engaged ever so slightly.

Driving the car in general seems fine, no juddering, no strange noises etc The distance the clutch travels from its usual position to fully pressed isn't very far in comparison.

Any ideas?

clio 2003 1.2 16v

New Scenic III owner

Hi All.

New here, and new to Renault as well. Just put a deposit down on a grey 2010 Scenic Dynamique 1.5 Dci.

My Father has the Scenic II, and before that a '98 Laguna and speaks highly of both. Both of which he's put space shuttle mileage on! :-D

Should pick it up in a day or two.

Auto locking

Hi chaps, me again, not been around for a while, mainly because ive not had any issues with the Clio! There is one thing bugging me though, the auto locking. If I manage to park quite close to my house, as I walk away I hear the car lock and "beep" however when I get in the car the next day, the car is unlocked. This only seems to occur if im parked close to my house, so does the car randomly open itselt in the middle of the night? Or do I manage to sit on the remote fob every night whilst watching tv?

Its not a huge issue as I live in a small rural town, no one locks thier cars (or houses!) here anyway, but if I were to travel somewhere, id like the peace of mind the car will stay locked all night :)

Megane dashboard lights help

Can anyone please help me identify what the warning lights on my dash mean please

Thanks

Euro car parts

Went in and asked if they had any feeler gauges. The staff didn't know what these were and had to ask, then said it would have to be ordered in as a specialist item. (Really, as there thin pieces of metal to check the gaps). As you give them the Reg number of your car is the spark plugs they give you already pre gaped? Laguna won't start

Typical, festive season and the car won't start. I suspect the battery, but wanted your thoughts..

The car was used the day before yesterday without issue.

It has about 65 miles left in the tank (Diesel), I was going to fill up again this morning, but obviously, haven't got that far yet!

I did wonder if the Diesel could have frozen over night, but I don't think it was cold enough and my neighbours all seem to be up and running!

When I try to start the car, it barely tries to turn over.

The service light comes on as does 'Check Airbag'

Any thoughts?

Seat Cleaning

Hi, just wanted to share my experience using some £1 shop upholstery Cleaner. It worked really well. Sprayed it on , and used the soft upholstery brush from a vacuum to gently work it into the fabric then vacuumed it off and rubbed it down with a clean towel. See pic for comparison.

brakes squealing

Hi,

I am new to this forum

I purchased a Renault Clio 1.2 approximately 11 months ago. From day one i have had problems with the front brakes squealing and the alignment. I took it back to the garage on numerous occasions and complained. They checked the breaks and could not find anything wrong (Pads and discs). I have also been having problems with the alignment, had the car back to the garage x3 times to sort the alignment and i feel it is still not right when driving the car (pulling to the right). :(

The car is still under warranty

Can anyone advise me on this Pls.

Rain Detect Windscreen?

Hello,

My first post here - on my first Renault. (Apart from my Renault 11 GTL many, many years ago!)

I have bought a LHD (Swedish) Megane, 2004. I think it is a Dynamique from what I've read online (15" alloys, fog lamps, red needles, sportier seats etc).

I have read a lot about the infamous Renault electrics and mine seems to be suffering from the same, though none have the same problems as I have, as far as I can see...

1. The driver-side electric window doesn't work.

(I think I have the answer to this, however).

2. The intermittent front wiper is acting like it has a rain-detect function on the glass. I doubt this is the case on this model (??).

The first setting on intermittent with '1 drop' will wipe once when selected and then stay still. 2, 3 and 4 drops will work as required but there seems to be little difference in the time delay.

3. The rear wiper blade is the same - ie it will go once when the engine is fired up (if selected) but then does nothing as the car runs - again, acting like rain-detect windscreen (I have been driving in the dry). So - they clearly work, but are "lazy". Does this sound familiar?

4. The heated rear windscreen doesn't work. Fuse, I guess.

Is the fusebox on a LHD under the steering wheel? (I know there is one in the engine bay).

Many thanks.

2005 scenic brakes question

I am pretty confident of changing the discs and pads on my 2005 Scenic Dci, I just have a question about what parts to order.

Does my model have disc brakes front and back? Same with pads, do I need to change on all 4 wheels?

Forgive my ignorance, I've never owned my own car, I've always just sent it to a garage for repair.

Megane II 1.5 DCI Injection Fault

I have a Renault Megane II 1.5 DCI 05 Plate.

On a cold morning my car will not start and the error ‘injection fault’ appears and the ‘stop’ sign will come up. This only happens when it is cold. The car does turn over a few times before the ‘stop’ sign appears. It is easily bump started when pushed and then the car is fine. Once it has been started in the morning it is fine all day until the next morning if it is cold again.

The glow plugs and the fuel filter have both been changed. Could anyone give me any advise on why this may be happening and what the fault may be. Thankyou

Supply Of Parts

Hi, does anyone know how long Renault are legally obliged / promise to sell parts for their cars after manufacture? If you do know can you point me in the direction of your source?

Thanks in advance

2001 scenic 1.9dci running issues

hello, im Rob, I have gone all through this site for something that will help but im still having trouble.

I bought a 51 plate scenic 1.9dci last week, when I bought it the engine management light and stop light were on, I got the AA to do a fault check and it came up with the following faults

DF002 water temperature sensor circuit

DF019 Air flow sensor circuit

DF061 Pre-heater plugs circuit

DF072 fuel pressure information

DF077 egr valve

DF079 clutch switch information

2 of the faults were present faults and the rest were stored

the air flow sensor and 1 other that I cant remember were the present ones, I think it was the water temp fault.

The AA guy said to replace the egr and maf sensor which I have now done.

I still have a warning light and the revs keep going up and down, there seems to be a pretty big flat spot when I start to pull away, I have to make sure I rev to 2k before I loose the clutch out otherwise it stalls.

when im moving it does seem to fly and run ok, although it throws what looks like white smoke out constantly on tick over and while driving.

my coolant levels are perfect but it does use oil

I have took the intercooler pipe off and found oil running out of it.

hope someone could point me in the right direction, im ready to put an hammer to it now:mad:

Advice on Scenic II's

Hello, I have been running a Scenic 1 (1.4 16v ) for many years and over 100 000miles and I've been very impressed/happy with it.

It however getting a little old and I would like my wife to be driving something newer. I will keep the old one for me.

Don't ask me why but I like Renaults, I have test driven Fords ( souless ), Citroen ( feel cheap ), Japanese ( Bland ) and have always come back to renault, for me they just see to have that 'Je ne sais quai'.

I have always liked the Scenic II's but realise they have a few weak spots ( handbrake, electric windows, dashboards, keycards? ) but if I spot a good I'd give one a shot.

I have £2000 to spend and from doing my research it looks like a decent one can be had for that money, my questions are.......

1. Are they as bad as a lot of people would have you belive?

2. I need around 40mpg for the school run, our 1.4 Scenic 1 manages that so I'd like at least that, we are sedate drivers!

3. What should I be looking out for?

4. Older low miler or newer higher miler?

5. Was the post 2006 facelift a better car?

any advice would be great.

Scenic I Rear Tail Light / Fuse

Hi, I have a 2001 Scenic and the passenger side tail light has gone. I have changed the bulb and this has not fixed the problem. I have checked the fuse panel but can't find which one if the rest tail light (I have checked them all). Any ideas?

Megane 1.5,CDI, leak off pipes popping off

Can anyone please help with the above problem we had the "leak off pipes" leaking diesel at the connections, so we replaced the pipes with new rubber hose from a motor factors (not from the renault dealer)

We think that the pressure is to blame being too high, this seems to have got worse since we put a new fuel filter on the car.

Where do we go from here the car is not drivable now because the little leak off pipes are popping off.

What can the reason be for the fuel pressure being too high is it a faulty sensor or fuel pressure regulator.

Hi all

Hi good forum, i own a old t reg megane, been problem free for years

Megane 1 immobiliser issues

Hi first post! My t reg 1.4 petrol megane while driving, suddenly all dash warning lights lit up, funny noise in dash. Turned ignition off, since then key fobs wont activate c locking, immobiliser red light flashing quickly, car will turn over but wont start. Can hear fuel pump priming. Also few other electric bits wont work. One elec window, rear h screen, front lights. Any help much appreciated as out of ideas. Looked at alot of posts regarding re synching fob but cant get immob light to slow down as it says in most posts. Does this sound more like fuse board issue?

Scenic 1 Central locking problem

The present situation is as follows. Both the inside switch to lock unlock and the key activates the system. However, only the front passenger door, the hatch door and the petrol flap works. To lock the vehicle you have to manualy lock the two back doors and after trying to lock the vehicle with the key's electronics, you have to finally manualy lock the drivers door with the key in the lock. Fortunately the front passenger door still works with the electronics. Because there is NO way to lock that door manualy (no outside lock in the door). The drivers door mechanism works fine when applying 12 volt directly to the contacts at the door.

My question is now whether the control unit has a relay for each door or is there one common one. My thoughts are to lay extra wires from a working door to a non-working one but i need to be sure that that is not going to blow the whole ECU. Another strange thing is happening.

Cleaning the car with the key in the ignition after a while (+- 30 seconds) there is an automatic locking of the 'working' units (hatch, petrol flap and front passenger door. The car never ever had this happening before (anti HI-jack?).

Questions: Where is the ECU? behind the fuse unit? how do you remove it? Where can a wiring diagram be obtained?

I am 100 mile from the nearest Renault agents and need to see if i could do something myself.

Please help.

Clio 8-valve 1.2 Intermittent Limp Mode Problems

My daughter has a late 2001 Clio 2 with an 8 valve 1.2 litre engine and 75,000 miles on the clock. It is having intermittent problems, very familiar on these pages. Sometimes, when idling, it runs rough and the engine rpm cycles up and down between 600 and 1200 rpm. Other times the engine warning light comes on when driving at between 25-40 mph and the engine goes into limp mode with the revs surging between idle and about 3-4000rpm (frequency typically about once every second). This produces very hazardous situations on busy London roads. Its now virtually unusable and we need to decide what to do.

The fault code coming up on the OBD2 reader always points to the throttle pedal; potentiometer and the throttle body. These have both been replaced but the problem comes back. We have also checked that all connectors on the loom are clean and tight and that there are no signs of cable chaffing near the ECU or elsewhere. Note that on the 8 valve engine the ECU is at the rear nearside of the engine compartment behind the battery, not behind the engine so I do not think this model tends to suffer from this problem to the same extent as the 16 valve models.

From reading this site the remaining possibilities seem to be as follows:

  • Hidden wiring loom faults (breaks, water ingress, connectors). A new loom costs £255 on this model plus fitting costs.

  • Faulty ECU (could be very expensive).

  • TDC sensor (inexpensive and easy to fit).

  • MAP sensor (inexpensive and easy to fix).

  • Oxygen sensors before and after the catalytic converter.

  • Partially blocked catalytic converter (apparently can be cleared using inexpensive fuel additive).

  • Coil pack.

  • Fuel Injectors.

Given the age and value of the car, there is obviously concern about spending large amounts especially if there is a real possibility that the results will prove ineffective.

Also, it is very difficult to know if the problem has been solved as the car runs fine most of the time and every time we do something we think its fixed, only to find subsequently that it is not. My daughter is now wary of driving it even if we change more parts but she cannot afford a new car (especially as she could not sell the car knowing its got these problems).

Can anyone advise what to try next please? She is getting quite desperate.

Incidentally we have an OBD2 code reader and have already attended to the faults it is pointing to (throttle pedal and body circuit). But I have seen some say that generic code readers are not suitable and we must go to Renault specialists who have the 'Renault Clip software. Is this true (I thought all petrol cars in Europe post 2001 had to use this protocol with diesels after 2004)? Also, from what I have seen on this site, expensive Renault diagnostics are often not very reliable anyway?

2005 Renault Kangoo - Radio issues

Hello Everyone,

I've recently purchased a Sony CDX-G1000U, and went ahead and swapped it over with the vehicles original head unit. Initially everything powered on fine and all seemed to be working well, I then went a started the car and it would not power the radio, nor will it power the original radio. I have checked the fuse under the passenger foot well and disconnected the battery just in case it was a fault. I'm still at a loss, does anyone have any ideas?

Renault Megane MK1 2000 Saloon cutting out at low speed when clutch is down - HELP!!!

Hi all. I have a 2000 X-reg Renault Megane saloon MK1 and it is a great car and drives absolutely perfectly and overall is in outstanding condition. But unfortunately I have had a few things happen of late but all have something in common. My car's engine has cut out twice in the last week and once 5 months or so ago when I have been going along at low revs with the clutch down. This seems to happen at low speed only and when the clutch is down not up and only one one of the three occasions when this happened was the engine "cold". I have not had any definitive answers about this from looking online and I know that the car once had ignition coil problems earlier on in its life under previous ownership which needed replacing. Is it probably going to be this? Car is petrol and has done 142 000 miles but is serviced regularly by main Renault dealer to the highest standards and never had anything like this happen in my ownership. Car was driven two days ago on a long 2 1/2 hour drive back from Devon and was fine. Please advise. Thanks.

Kangoo glow plug light off / temp got working

Hi guys when i came to turn my key in my 2002 1.9D d65 kangoo the other day there was no glow plug light / engine management or temp light so the van wouldn't start .

i called my mate on the rac and after having a fiddle with the relays he found the purple one i think it was had no negative feed. the. quick solution for this was to put a fly wire direct from the negative terminal on the battery into the negative terminal on the relay once this was done the van started fine.

The only issue is that we had to put a bullet connection in the fly wire that i need to disconnect and then reconnect every time i stop for a long time and then when i want to start it again i need to reconnect.

i believe this is so not to flatten the battery as if left connected i am aware the battery would go flat as the relay is getting a constant feed

This was just a temp job to get me going until he gets Chance to have better lool at his own place in the new year

i am here to ask has anyone came across this same problem before ??

what could be causing the relay to loose the negative feed

1999 renault espace heater problem

Hi All. Although I have owned many Renaults and have 2 now I have an issue I am struggling with. Heater has packed up at the worst time with 5 kids under 8 and ice on the car most days its unbearable with no heater. A Renault bloke said it was the control panel so I got a recon one with guarantee and fitted it but still no fan on any setting. I NEED TO KNOW WHAT TO CHECK NEXT as I cant afford a garage to do it as I am unwell (Gastric Ulcer) and on ESA benefits! Do I need to check a fuse? if so where is it? Do I need to take the whole dash out to check resistor, blower/motor and if so whats the easiest way as energy and strength are not on my side while I am unwell? or perhaps there is a Renault mechanic / mobile mechanic in the Sevenoaks / Kent area you know of that would come and help me for a price of course? Please help before I end up with frozen kids! Blakey.

Passenger speakers not fully working with AUX

Hi I'm new to this forum and I have just bought a Clio 09 dynamique S 1.5 dci. I have bought an AUX cable from eBay and turned the AUX setting on within the CD plate settings. Although I can hear music it's intermittent through the passenger speakers.

If anyone has any suggestions or who has had this problem themselves I would love to now how to sort it out. Thanks

megane coupe 1.5dci remap?

Hey guys been a long old while since I posted on here. Been looking at buying myself a nice shiny gt86 actually but decided the economical option is to just keep my diesel coupe for now :( don't know if that's a good thing or a bad thing... but anyway to the point I'm looking at getting it mapped to add a bit more fun back into driving it as I've had it nearly 2 years now. My main worry though is do these engines stand up well to having extra stress on the fuel pumps and turbo etc? We have all heared the horror stories and I don't want my engine to blow up after only 39k ha. I'm taking it to a well known and trusted garage though and they have quoted 299 to take my 1.5dci 106 up to 131bhp and add 55nm of torque. So anyone got any advice or experience, good or bad I'm listening so tell me what to do. :p

Kangoo Gearboxes Difference between 1.5dci and 1.9 Gearbox

Hi

My gearbox on my 1.9d Kangoo (X Reg) is on it's way out, 5th gear screams but everything else seems to be fine.

Looking to replace it and wondering if a 2003 1.5dci kangoo gearbox would fit?

Laguna II - Water sloshing around in dash - drain holes blocked?

Hi Guys.

I have rain water sloshing around in the dash area below the windscreen. It's also spilling out over the front passengers feet.

I'm guessing that the drain holes have been blocked with leaves as it's been windy and rainy recently.

Can anyone point me towards a posting that shows how to locate and unblock them.

Happy Xmas. :)

Battery charger via solar cell

I have Renault Megane 2001 and wondered if these solar panel units would trickle charge my battery via the cigarette lighter socket. Someone suggested these panels don't work on every car ?

Passenger speakers not fully working with AUX cable

Hi, I'm new to this forum. I have just bought an 09 Clio dynamique S 1.5 dci and have bought an AUX cable off eBay. I have followed instructions on the Internet and I have it working (partly). The speakers on the passenger side do not fully work when the AUX cable is in use, the speakers do work with radio/CD.

I have tried two different cables now and I'm at a loss, any suggestions would be gratefully appreciated. Thanks

MK3 Megane 1.9 DCI wont start.

Hi,

I've recently have to change the Master Cylinder Assembly as I snapped the slave piston emergency braking. The garage has swapped this out no problem but now the car will not start.

Prior to snapping the piston the car start fine getting it on / off the recovery truck but now does nothing when pressing the start button with either the clutch or the brake pedal depressed.

The garage have tried to charge the battery incase it was flat and re-checked the two sensors on the clutch pedal and still no luck. They've used some diagnostic software on the ECU but it shows them nothing.

They're at the limit of their understanding and I haven't got a clue what to try next! The car was running perfectly until this ... Any ideas?

Thanks,

Matt

New Owner - 2005 Modus 1.4 (with new clutch)

Hi there, I'm Clive from Corby / Peterborough.

I'm into my cars and enjoy researching and tracking down the right car for myself or family.

Really pleased to have found a 1.4 16v for my partner. It's had a recent cambelt/waterpump change but better still a brand new LUK clutch and Slave Cylinder (a £700 job).

Hope to learn more about the car and do any required works on it myself . . .

My first car was a 1994 Renault Clio 1.4 RT that would always fail it's MOT on brake lines, sold it on when the sunroof began to leak. My last few cars have all had the VAG 1.9 TDI (130bhp) engine.

Clio 1.6 Automatic gearbox slipping on Roundabout above 28mph

On a Clio 1.6 Auto MkII mileage 79650

When ever I go round a big roundabout (right turn - clockwise) [eg Hopgrove on A64 in York]

above 28mph the automatic gearbox slips as if

I'd pushed the clutch pedal to the floor on a manual car. Below 28mph the gearbox works fine.

As soon as I exit the roundabout (left turn) the gearbox kicks in and works normally.

The garage (non Renault) couldn't find a fault and after pressing them they changed the oil (really annoying on this model as there is no dip stick for the gearbox) [I think this could have been it's first oil change] and it seemed work properly although it there was a slight noise change.

Now a couple of months on it has just starting slipping again above 28mph on big roundabouts.

Any one any ideas what the fault might be and how to fix?

I can find plenty of MKIII automatic boxes in scrapyards but wasn't sure if I could swap my MKII with one. (I understand the MKIII has 5gears and mine the MKII has 4 gears?)

RS Megane 175DCi Engine removal to fix whining gearbox

Hi

As a christmas project I'm pulling the engine from my wife's 2007 175DCi Megane (M9R engine, PK4 gearbox) so I can swap or fix the gearbox depending how it looks. I've printed off most the bits from the manual. One question I have is do I need to remove the driveshaft completely or can I undo the ball joints and move the hub and driveshaft out of the gearbox?

I'll also replace the ac condenser while I'm there and may have ac for more than a few weeks at a time!

Also here's my shopping list - see if there is anything missing? Or anything that is so easy to do with engine out I'd be foolish not to.

Drive shaft seals (gearbox)

Fuel filter

Gearbox oil = Elf TransElf NFP 75W80

Gearbox or bearings

Coolant

AC condenser

AC receiver drier

Clutch – might be OK

Flywheel – might be OK

Engine oil and filter

It looks from the manual the engine comes out of the front/underneath the car - i don't have a lift, so can't get it from under the car, but I do have a hoist, so can pull the engine out the top of the car - will this be OK?

I'll be back with some photos of my progress :)

Clio 1.5 DCi air and water coming from glow plug area

Hi all

My ladie's Clio 1.5 DCi gave us the STOP and ENGINE! signs on the dash last night. Digital water temp at max. We stopped. It immediately dropped to 3/4 temp. We started up and drove on. It stayed at 3/4 temp.

Then on the way home (we went to a party of course!) it happened again, but then as before, just cleared itself. Seemed to follow no pattern.

As there were no clouds of steam I assume dnothing major had blown.

Took a look this morning.

Water all over the engine front, seemingly from the cyl head. Seemingly.....

I topped up about 2 header tank's worth or water. It glugged the 1st refil.

Started her up - no problem - but very apparent sound of air escaping from the engine (tick tick tick).

Immediately, and this is from stone cold, there is water forming and bubbling around the seat of the glow plug (I assume it's a glow plug) - marked "A" in one of my photos. This isn't boiling water - it happened the second I started the engine. This is escaping air. Unless I'm mistaken.

As the engine got warmer, water was spraying from that area, also seemingly from the injector area, but I think it's a bit confusing once it all gets wet. I've linked a video. Nothing seems to be coming from the head gasket area. I'm fairly confident the water is there due to spraying everywhere - and contained a bit by the plastic engine cover.

Any ideas ? I'm no expert but why would water be coming from the area of a glow plug? Unless of course the head gasket has blown and is letting water into that cylinder - but then we dont' get head gasket symptoms - no steam or coulds of steam out of the exhaust. No rough starting. Engine runs fine. Besides, the glow plug area should be a 100% seal surely. Maybe there is a water channel that heats the injectors and a seal has gone?

Just thought I'd ask here 1st.. Here are some photos and a video.

Clio II 2002 1.4 Engine Died Suddenly

Hi there,

I was driving along, going up a gentle hill around 30mph earlier today when there was a sudden, total loss of engine power. I managed to coast to the roadside. All attempts to restart failed. All electrics seemed ok. Starter motor turning over but engine not firing up. Nearly full tank of petrol. Very wet conditions.

Called RAC, engineer diagnosed a timing belt failure. He said he took off the oil filler cap and couldn't see any rotation of the cams when turning over the starter. Is his diagnosis likely to be correct? If it is, I assume the engine is finished. The car is 12 years old with 66000 on the clock but the timing belt hasn't been changed.

I also noticed the rear demister wouldn't work. Does the engine have to running for this to operate or could there be some major fuse failure somewhere like with the big fuses to the right side of the battery?

TIA,

Service Light + Brake Light

REF: 2004 Grand Espace Initiale

Hello

After momentarily disconnecting my battery the service light + hand brake light are now illuminated. I've got one of those cheap OBD2 code readers but it notices nothing.

Is there a re way I can resolve this or is a main street / Reno garage my only option?

Cheers for any helpful replies.

Headlamp washer jets

Hi

I've noticed my headlamp washers don't work. Having read the manual they should come on with the wash wipe / headlights, but don't.

Where should I start first.

Cheers for any replies.

Hissing/sizzling or trickle sound when making right-hand turns

Hi, when making right turns either on roundabouts or general right hand turns, I hear either a trickling sound or a hissing/sizzling sound coming from the left hand side of the car around about where the front passenger door hinge would be..

I popped the bonnet one time when I came off a roundabout having heard the hissing/sizzling sound but nothing seemed to jump out at me and the sound only happens during the turn.

Can someone help me diagnose the issue please.. Wouldn't be sure where to start..

Thanks

Advice regarding Renault Clio with Misfire

Hello

Firstly, apologies if this question is asked elsewhere on here. I did do a search (and was pointed here a few times by Google too when getting as far as I am into the problem) but did not find seem to get the information I was looking for from the numerous similar questions I found. Hopefully I did not miss something silly.

I do not have the best knowledge on the internal workings of cars so please bear with me as I try to explain things in the post.

A few weeks ago I was driving home and when close to my house the car started making more noise than the usual car noises one would expect. Also it seemed to be shaking more when idle, and seemed to have a loss of power when driving. I did noticed the shaking is worse when using electricity, for example headlights. Not sure if this makes a difference. However no warning light was shown on the dashboard to indicate the car knew of a problem.

So I searched the internet and results seemed to suggest a misfire, which from my limited knowledge made sense. Results also seemed to blame the coils for this problem, as they seem to be a common issue with this car.

Not an expert in the area, and not wanting to just take the risk and just buy and replace this part I booked my car in for a checkup at a local chain garage.

Initially they looked at my car and came to the same conclusion as the forums I visited and they quoted me a price for new coils. I agreed and they set out to replace them. Unfortunately when they changed them the problems persisted. They ran some more checks and in the end their conclusion was I did have a misfire, and a

compression check had found very low compression on one of the cylinders. They were unable to continue the diagnostics at this point as it was now a problem beyond a simple checkup. I was told to move forward I would have to pay for the engine to be stripped down and was quoted £250 for this (which I think they said was a minimum cost), which I would have to wait till after Christmas to do.

I am now left a little unsure of what to do as a next step. As the company that did the original work is a fairly well known chain, I have faith in what they have done so far.

Does anyone know what the issue may be? I think £250 is reasonable, considering there is probably a lot of work to do, but this seems to be just for them to look into the problem. I have no idea how expensive it may get. Because I do not know how expensive this will be I do not know if it is worth going through with this or not at the moment. Are more issues likely to arise?

A few more details about my car:

I have a 2003(53 reg) Renault Clio Authentique which I have owned for just over a year. It has around 114,000 miles on the clock, and up until now I have had no problems with it (although when I bought it from the dealer there was a check engine light on which I was told was due to a low battery. I was told this would go out when the battery was more charged, which it did after driving for a while).

Would it be recommended to have the engine stripped as suggested, or is it likely to get very costly?

Thanks for any help

Renault Clio Mk3 06 clutch pedal not returning

I was in traffic and put my clutch in to change gear and it just stayed on the floor and didn't return a little smoke came from the car and a braking fault signal came up on the dash, the previous day I heard squeaking from the breaks too? Maybe there's something?

I've been told the clutch is fine by a experienced mechanic

The list we think it could be is

? master cylinder

? slave cylinder

? clutch return spring

I'm not sure though I'm a amateur I'm trying to learn....

Thank you in advance

Scenic RX4 - Steering wheel radio controls

Good afternoon all.

I just picked up a 2001 RX4.

The only thing I noticed when I brought it was the radio wasn't working. So I have now found out why, it wasn't plugged in!!

Plugged it all in and working lovely, the only thing I have found is that the steering wheel controls don't work at all.

It looks like someone had an after market radio in before. So I can see I have a spare wire, with a little black connector, but have no idea where this plugs in. If I follow this back up it goes to a red wide connector. I cannot for the life of me work out where this should all be connected.

Any help is much appreciated.

Many thanks

Graham

Location of drains under scuttle

Hello I have a leak in my footwells, I was doing some reading and a lot of people have pointed to the drains being blocked, I had a look and there is a little bit of water in the bottom but I could not see the the drain! It is a 2002 mk 2 clio 1.5 DCI

Could someone please post a pic of where it is located and of any tools I can use to clear it!

Thank you

ongoing HOT START problem megane 1.5 DCI

Hi there,

The hot start problem...we have tried the following so far without success.

1. Took it to a local garage where they plugged in a code reader and it said "THE AIR INLET TEMP is reading -40 degrees " (minus 40 degrees C) it's my sons car he brought it round and we soon realised that it did'nt have an air inlet temp sensor...

The clue I suppose was in the reading minus 40 ... this I think was pointing towards an open circuit or the fact that it did'nt in fact have one.

2. We then took off and cleaned the EGR VALVE (having it come apart like they sometimes do with the solenoid coming away seperate and leaving the valve stuck in the housing.) was a pain.

3. Changed the CRANKSHAFT TDC SENSOR.

4.Changed the FUEL FILTER but this also has'nt helped but had to be done of course in any case.

We are now looking to change the CAMSHAFT POSITION SENSOR at £35 inc. vat the costliest option left till last.

Has anyone had the hot start problem before and sorted it by changing the camshaft position sensor.

The car starts up perfect from cold runs well with good fuel economy and no smokey exaust.

warning lights airbag and abs 1.2 Clio 2004

Over the years the light for the airbag has come on and wiggling the wires under the passenger seat has made it go out. The abs light has never been on before but as they came on together I think the 2 are related to those wires and connectors under the seat. Wiggling won't make them go out this time. Has anyone had this problem? When it stops raining I'll have a proper look at it but any input for a similar fault would be welcome.

Clio3 water leak rear footwell offside

Renault Clio 2009 5door water leak footwell behind drivers seat. I have cleaned out scuttle drain tubes but still leaking after heavy rain. Found when open rear off side door water evident bottom of door sitting in door sill area. Doors drain holes are clear.

Clio mkii 2002 1.5 DCI ,Wet floor in driver footwell

Hi guys I know this is a fairly common thread and I have been looking but as it is so close to Christmas I wanted as much advice as possible so I can go buy parts/tools today.

Basically my windows steam up really badly, and I've noticed the drivers footwell is quite wet!

I know to unblock the three drains under the scuttle panel,

test the sunroof and door seals (blast water and check for seepage)

check the aerial base

replace pollen filter

Can anyone tell of of any other possible causes, I've seen some threads about water in the heater matrix or AC system but I can't find much info about it! Please help me I would like to be able to check this all out and get it sorted today!

Thank you!

2 last questions regarding my wiper motor...

hi again...well ive took the plunge and ordered a wiper motor and linkage for my reno migrane 2 for £25 with 3mths guarentee off ebay with 2 week to return if its no good...

my question is if and when i plug this new motor in and it doesnt work(please no) am i right in saying that the fuse for the front wiper motor is in the engine compartment and not passenger glovebox?

and if it turns out not to be the fuse but the relay instead im gonna need a complete new uch i think its called which could set me back big money??

if so im selling/scrapping car as i cant afford to go down that route just for the wipers...as i dont think its the stalk as everything else on it works perfect..cheers

loose boot lock on megane

Hi

Been having a problem with the boot lock on my 99 megane coupe. As you will be aware, this is a keyless function on this model, only opens with push on button. Mine has become loose recently, it can be manipulated back into place, and opening and closing works. Its just that the lock is more or less just sitting in its position without anything holding it.

Question is, can this lock be fixed, or just get replacement

Think I need it sorted before it disappears..

Hi All

Hi, I have just purchased a 2006 Grand Scenic 1.5dci. Probably the best car I have owned. It does have a few niggles, ie, although the electric bracke engages fine and reports no issues, I do not have a light on the manual switch or dashboard to tell me its on or off. Any insight would be appreciated.

Thanks

Thanks

Jamie:

Hi All

I have just joined and my name is john ( nickname Sooty) and am the proud owner of a 2003 trafic 1.9 dci with a few minor issues and a 51 laguna est 1.8 with, you guessed it, a few minor issues but i love them both. so Hello:d

Hi

Hi everyone, my names John and I'm from Kearsley. Just bought my girlfriend a 2002 Renault Scenic so she can transport our 5 year old son and 2 year old twins around a little easier than in her Peugeot 206. So far it's been a bit of a bumpy ride as the cambelt snapped after 3 days ownership but fingers crossed we're all good now. I like to join the owners forum of any cars we own as you always get the best advice and tips from fellow owners so hope to hear from some of you guys and girls soon.

scenic 1 washer jets

Hello, the washer jets on my old scenic 1 are continually clogging up so it must be time to remove the reservoir and give it a good cleaning out. It looks like i will have to remove the inner wheelarch cover, is it fairly straightforward to remove after that?

Alternatively can it be cleaned successfully in situ?

Glow plug light coming on. Clio 1.5 dci

Hi, I have a Clio 2005 1.5 dci which normally runs really well and is very good on fuel. However, occasionally the glow plug light comes on and it loses a bit of power. I connected an OBD2 code reader to it and got two error messages.

1. Throttle/pedal position sensor/switch c circuit.

2. Glow plug control module control circuit/open.

Has anybody got any ideas what the problem could be?

Thanks in advance.
