Regional sections

Just wondering if you guys had ever though about having regional sections like England, Ireland, Scotland, Wales etc (You know where I'm going lol) as I think it would be good to talk and maybe meet up with others from our respective areas.

Would be nice to find people near to where I live so we could meet, Have a laugh and have a look at each others motors without having to travel far and wide :d

Anti squeal plates

Hi guys, Was just wondering if it's possible to buy anti squeal plates and if so where to get them from. My local motor factors said they can't get them.

One of mine is split and they are both squealing lol

K9k guesses Ive made ?

Meg 3 ,early 2009-early 2012 there are 4, 1.5dci engine types. Im talking about the base block and compression ratio.

Either side of that production range and mandatory EU euro 5 equipped cars to be sold after jan 2011, vvt vs fixed vane turbos, various fuel pressures, dpf non dpf etc etc,Im not so worried but engine internals, is the compression ratio a good guide?

The 85 bhp version has cr 17.6.. kinda oldstlye diesel higher cr.

90 bhp=15.2,105 bhp=15.4. 110 bhp =15.2

Taking out the 15.4 cr as maybe shaving an extra couple of mm off the cylinder head in production or perhaps even a different thickness head gasket, and that all 4 versions have the same quoted bore and stroke

Is it

(a)reasonable to guess for general purposes that the 85 bhp version has different internals(at least in the head area) to the other 3? and

(b)follow that on to take it that the 90,105 and 110 are the built for higher power ,torque and fuel pressure versions ,dependent on mapping/turbo type etc?

2003 Espace 2.0 Petrol - Sounds like Diesel!

Hi,

We have had our Espace approx. 7 years and it has been great! However over the last few months it has started to sound very tappity (like a diesel engine) and also reluctant to start and rough idling and stalling until warm.

We have had it serviced for the last 4 years by an independent garage who do the basics.

Can anyone give us any pointers as the garage don't know??

(also seems to take ages for heating to get warm in winter and coolant looks rusty colour)

Many thanks, Peter

I tried replacing the sensor and recalibrating but no luck. The fault remains. Did anyone have this problem?

Problem after adjusting rear brake shoes. Clio 2

Hi,

I have just disassembled, cleaned and reassembled my rear drum brakes due to a squeak when releasing the brake pedal.

My squeak is gone but I have another problem now. It's hard to explain but when I brake, the brakes seem a little over sensitive at first, then the pedal seems to drop a little and I have to apply more pressure to maintain the same amount of brake force. My pedal seems fine when stationary and it holds on hills with no extra pressure required.

This has me baffled! Please can someone help?

new to renault forum

Hi, having owned a wonderful clio for many years, with few problems, i swapped my vauxhall astravan recently for a renault master, cos my mum died suddenly and i need to clear her house..... may need some help with a few things....on the master, though it is comfortable ride.....on an aside, how do i get the stereo working as i'm doing 190 mile round trip to mum's each weekend and singing to myself at the moment ha ha.... thank you for having a forum for all thing renault :)

splitting front seat covers

Hi. I've got a Lag 3 TomTom Dynamic bought new Oct 2010. I've just noticed that the leather on the two front seats is splitting on the outsides. What is obviously happening is when you sit on the seat the sides bulge out and on the outside edges of the seat the leather goes down behind plastic which has an edge facing in directly onto the leather so obviously with someone sitting in the seat there has been movement as the car has been driven and this movement has been chaffing the leather until it has split. The car is 3 and 1/2 years old and only done 27000 miles so I really think this is a bit of a design fault and really not good enough. Just wondering if anyone else has had this problem???

Cheers

Some very very basic OBD or OBD2 OBDII advice needed

I have a 2000 1.4 Clio 8v sport my son has a 2005 Clio extreme 1.2 16v (Can't really think of 2 cars that are neither sporty nor extreme but that's another story!)

I'm looking to dip my toe into reading (or is it scanning) and, if ever required, resetting OBD or OBD2 OBDII codes and other related stuff but the more I read the more uncertain I get!

Visiting the Renault forums has given me a severe dose of car hypochondria but perhaps that's the subject for another thread?

Some basic questions:

What sort of device should I be looking for?

Where are the plugs located on my clios and will I need adapters? Are they located both in the car and in the engine bay and if so do they perform the same function?

Is there a popular liked or generally accepted reader/resetter which the experts on here use or recommend - there seems to be a lot of (to much!) choice on fleebay?

I'm OK with having to interface with a laptop if necessary.

Is there a scanner which will work on both cars above and recent Clios

Is there a recognised code database available or is that dealer privileged info?

Will any of these devices deal with key related tweaks like re-synchronising a key to the car or brakes or airbag related stuff etc

To future proof myself I don't mind spending a bit more on a device but not £hundreds.

I apologise if some of these questions have already been answered but searching is difficult as most people's posts relate to specific problems.

cheers to all

w

laguna 3 dpf problem

hi, i hope someone can help me, i recently purchased a luguna 3 2.0 dci, for the first 4 weeks was great, loved it, but then one day the "check injection" warning light came on & the car went in to restricted performance mode, i took the car to the garage & they told me it was the dreaded dpf system, having experienced this before with a mazda i was gutted, i can't afford to buy a brand new oe dpf system, so does anyone know of any renault spares, that may stock an unblocked second hand system as the renault garage said that an aftermarket one won't work due to the ecu not being able to recognise it (i had the same problem with mazda), really hoping someone can help.

Hello Renault forum

Hi all

I'm John from Middlesbrough.

I've joined this forum to help me maintain my niece's Clio. This is a 2004 1.5 dci 100, she as owned it for about 8 years and it's been mostly reliable. The only problems being a sticky EGR valve, broken front springs and now a fault with the ABS. Thanks to the information in this forum I've tracked down the faulty ABS to a rusty reluctor ring.

My daily drive is a Rover 25 and I also have 2 Triumph TR7s, these are off the road at the moment and are in the process of being restored, they have been being restored for more years than I would like to admit to.

Heater Flap Motor problem

Hi.

I have an issue with the motor that moves the flap that directs air to control hot or cold.

Currently to change from hot to cold I have to turn the car off and then back on to get the motor to move the flap.

But once it's done it's first move I have to put temp up or down, restart car and the flap will move again.

Does anyone have any idea why it's not moving the flap once the car is running? Would the internal temp sensor be causeing this?

Thanks

1.9 dci Laguna diesel fuel pump

Car wouldn't start today. Mechanic investigated. No fuel to engine. Lifted rear seats, power to pump but no diesel coming through when fuel line disconnected to check.

All points to failed pump. It's a Bosch model - original one I'm told. Looks like I need a replacement.

My question is, what's this pump called? What do I search for? Am I likely to get one from Euro Car Parts, for instance.

It's an 03 plate, by the way.

diesel fuel does your car run better on different fuels

hi see the petrol heads had a thread going about how they perform with different makes of fuel. I don't beleave that it makes much difference with petrol. Now diesel is a different thing.i read here some use Asda some Tesco some only shell. do you find that much difference as the fuel must be to of a standard or would it be down to poorhouse keeping (water, crap) in with it.in this country we only got 50ppm four years ago before then had a drain pipe on my filter as always getting warning light up. Any way lets hear from you all lol

Buying a Renault Scenic Dynamique Tom Tom (dCi 110)

Hi

My partner and I saw a Renault Scenic Dynamique Tom Tom (dCi 110) yesterday and both liked it.

http://ift.tt/1jAkNR9

I particularly like the 5 star ncap safety rating of the scenic as we have a couple of youngsters. After safety fuel efficiency is my next priority.

It's intended to be used mostly for 5 mile school runs across town and an Avon round. Lots of short urban journeys.Once a month or so it will get a longer journey - 30 mile. And 3 or 4 times a year a long trip to the west country.

Do you think this is the best model/engine size to go for or should we look out for another?

I heard the 1.6l was newer (perhaps more efficient) engine and start/stop would be an important money saver for us.

Thanks for looking

pete

Hello from Dubai

Hello guys ,

glad to find an English forum for Renault , did many search and looks like you are the most active forum covering Renault , tired Google translate on some french forum , was hard to keep up :D .

long story short , just bought a 2009 Megane MK2 225 , what a fun car to drive , driving many other eauropean cars ( weekend car is the mighty E60 M5 - daily driving Peugeot 206RC / VW Jetta GLI ) and now one more little mighty added to the garage ,

some body work is under progress now but just minor problem ( side doors dent due to small car park in the mall ) ,

a quick pic for the car when I bought it ,

currently it has K-tech exhaust - Forge blow off valve and god knows what is the name of the intake .

so nice meeting you all .

Laguna II 2.0IDE gearbox problem

Hello everyone.

My gearbox started to make heavy noise like there are metallic parts messed up in a gearbox. It has noise in neutral and in first and second gears while driving. When I push clutch (is it called so?) noise stops.

I suppose it's a clutch problem, or most probably of a gearbox itself.... :(

Problem is in my country Laguna is not so popular and it's hard to find spare parts.

If anybody knows, if it's a gearbox problem, will 1.8, 2.0 16v or 3.0 gearbox fit mine?

Some efforts at personal info security

In relation to Vel's post about telephone scam's in this section.

You can google the topic and see more results.

Im not sure how my landline number was accessed but aside from cold calling.Which would be random in my case since its not listed anywhere publicly>

The most likely source is renault Ireland. That may seem a bit mean and they arent the only public source with whom its listed but they are the co who has used it most recently.

There are of course other possible sources..my isp provider, which is seperate to the actual landline provider..and even if you allways clik the dont disseminate my info or send me any spam boxes, in communications..who knows.

Anyway

1.I try not to use my "best" email address unless absolutely necessary.multiple ones are easy enough to get from the myriad of providers, and its very difficult to keep a single address totally spam free.

Since joining the forums here Ive used 2 different ones already.. just as a precaution.

The trouble is keeping track of the email addresses and the different passwords, but its worth it.

Every 6 months or so I try and change my email address for all online activites, when I remember.

2.Online payments.. I usually go for a purchasable cc such as 3V,it costs slightly more but its a lot easier than switching your "real" bank and cc details if they become compromised.

Its only linked to a user specified email addy or mobile phone number.

3.A mobile number..I only go for pay as you go.. and have never ever registered with a mobile provider.

Ive had a mobille here since the mid 90's and have gone thru at least 10 different mobile phone numbers, actually closer to 20 ;)

The fact that you can be tracked by calls/satellite even just on principle I dont want a name connected to the number+ email.

Disadvantages:

(a)For someone with a home business or small operation, resonably frequent number changes wont look good and isnt great for repeat business :(.

(b)If you dont enter into a mobile contract ,you wont be able to get the latest all singing ,all dancing phone/pad for next to nothing.

Then again the co. wont be able to earn cash selling your info on either.

4.Your pc/tablet/laptop

I never allow remote access to it.I dont care if its my isp provider(they have requested it) or genuine microsoft techs no remote access enabled for me.

Possibly could be a disadvantage if very computer illiterate, but other than that,if there is any real problem..theyre gonna just have to explain the steps., or ill tell them the data.

Viruses, keyloggers, cookies, the recent ie and ebay ..your details are public knowledge scares..not much to do about that except relying on anti scammer software etc., but I try and minimise the "tracking " possibilities.

Kangoo - where to lift safely?

Am wanting to lift the front of a Kangoo with a hydraulic jack in order to put it on stands. There is a metal cross section, part of the permanent chassis (not sub-frame), that spans the front of the vehicle, below the radiator. The tongues on the leading edge of the metal "belly guard" rest on this section. Thing is, looking from underneath, everything is covered in plastic trim, so I'm guessing the car was never intended to be lifted here.

The garages always seem to lift at the 4 jack points, something you can do if you have a two or four post lift, and I suspect many a Kangoo has been lifted with a jack under the belly guard, something I am loath to do.

What say you guys? Pull the trim off and use the cross section?

Espace mk3 (2002): Wiring up a reverse camera

Hi.

I have bought a reversing camera and wired it up. However it seems to keep the number plate lights on now.

Here's what I did.

Removed boot inside panel 4 torq screws 2 plastic clips and 2 torq screws holding handle on.

Drilled hole for camera leads to go through at number plate recess and fed the wires through.

Struggled feeding the video cable and power cable through tailgate to the rubber grommet exit so ran the cable on inside of the window under the window seal.

Now I got the power cable through to the offside rear light and test lamped which wire was the reversing light. I got this as pin no 5 at the connector of rear light. So I spliced and soldered in my power cable and taped it up.

The earth was a weird one. Because the bodywork isn't metal but fiberglass I needed to grab a earth point. I again used test lamp and turned on side lights to find the 12v feed on the number plate light. I found this to be the white wire and the white with black stripe was the earth wire. So I spliced the insulation back on the white with black wire and soldered the negative earth to it.

Now I put the tailgate trim back on and find the number plate lights stay on! Why is this? I've disconnected the plug to the camera for now to stop the number plates being on 24/7.

A telephone scam doing the rounds to look out for.

Hi there,

Just had a call at 8.45 from a company (claiming to be Microsoft), saying that my computer had been hacked and was spreading viruses!

Seemed all very suspicious (I have various firewalls and anti-virus/malware software always running and updating), and he (John, with the 'Apu Kwik-ee-mart' accent) was about to launch into a set of commands for me to input into my pc.

I was very wary (wondering why no error messages had appeared, nor why Microsoft hadn't emailed me, etc), and since I was genuinely getting the kids ready for school, told him I didn't have the time at the moment - he said he'd call back in the hour.

I did 1471, got this number - 00118552348747, and when I do this search; http://ift.tt/1nFNZfm

Just be on the lookout for these miscreants.

pothole advice again

I drove over a huge pothole and got a flat spot on my alloy, wheel bearing needs attention and damaged the top suspension mount. I have got the mount fixed and wheel bearing but wondered could I still claim from the council?

Engine Power

Hi, I have a 1.4 2003 Megane and I would like to know if there is anything I can do to improve the engine power.

As you may know the 1.4 is a bit under powered, so is there anything I can do to this engine to get more from it or should I be looking at changing the engine to the 1.6?

Many Thanks

Inlet manifold removal help.

Hi guys.

While my car is still off the road I thought it would be a good Idea to get the inlet manifold off as it's full of crap and give it a good clean.

Now I know the Mk1 Megane is a complete pain in the **** to work on but I have never come across such a hard car.

I have removed all bolts from the manifold and it moves to a point and that's it.

It will not just come free.

As it is a Megane I'm wondering if I have to remove the rear wheels or something. Sorry sarcasm is all I have left with this car

Espace IV one-touch window fault

Hi guys

once again I have failed to find the answer to a simple problem.

My windows have lost their one-touch function. When any switch is operated the respective window only moves an inch at a time, even if you hold it.

Clearly the Gremlins are having a field day. I suspect a loose wire somewhere, possibly under the dash which has been disturbed when the shockers where done last week, possibly in the door.

Any ideas??:o

New speedo sensor - reading far out

Hello,

I have a Clio II (2001),

The speed was dropping out intermittently on the dial, until one point it was off permanently.

Assumption was speed sensor was knackered, tried to clean but did not work.

I replaced it with a new one off ebay,

The speed appears on the dial now but it is far out from the actual speed.

I got a friend to drive beside me at 40mph but my dial was reading 30mph and tried again with them driving 60mph beside me and mine was reading 45mph (worth to mention it actually feels like 60mph as well).

Any ideas what the problem could be?

Thanks,

Clio II - Loud ear hurting noise - HELP please!

Hi everyone,

I'm a new member but not new to the forum, first of all let me thank everyone for the valuable info on here, between this and my Haynes manual I've been able to save myself a lot of money fixing up my clio and keeping it in top condition.

Which brings me to my current issue..

My Clio is making some horrible high pitched groaning noises at specific speed, notably 38-40mph and at its loudest at 60mph. The high pitched sound goes away when im over or under these speeds. It does return though around 70mph but again once im at 75mph its gone.

I've got a Clio Mk2 1.2 8v 2001. Now first of all i thought engine as it seems to be coming from the front of the car. So Ive completely serviced it, flushed the engine, changed the oil and added an oil treatment for good measure. This made no difference to the problem but ruled out the engine i think as the engine noise improved and sounds alot better. While i was at it i changed the spark plugs, leads and coilbox.

Next I figured it might have been the transmission. I figured a gear problem might be it as id ruled out the engine noise. I changed the oil on the transmission as it was due it, (I had changed it previously 30,000 miles before). This made no difference to the noise although the gears are as smooth as butter now. For both the engine and gears i used a high performance castrol oil to ensure a hopeful fix.

As this hasnt fixed it I took it for an intensive test drive. Around the problem speeds i came out of gear and into neutral and the noise remains. So when im not in gear it makes the same noise and to further rule out the gearbox i tried 60mph in 4th and 5th the noise remains at both, exactly the same, and you can here the engine giving it more welly in 4th, again seeming to rule it out of the problem.

Does anyone know what the noise might be, my car literally sounds like its about to take off, it really gets to your ears. It seems to be getting worse and im desperate to get this solved. Could it be a wheel bearing, would that make that much noise? and only at certain speeds? The plan is, get to a mechanic and have it fixed but id like to know what im dealing with.

Thanks for any help you guys can give and thank for the help in the past!!

All the best,

Dan

Master 2.5 g9u timing gears

My 2005 master has started to make a rattling noise coming from the timing belt area, I've been told it's the timing gears. Anyone else experienced this ?

Auto box problems

Hi guys.

I have a 54 reg 1.4 clio auto. I have just rebuilt engine after snapping cambelt. Engine is now running fine.

I have not had any issues with gearbox prior to snapping cambelt. Now gearbox light is showing at low revs as soon as a few revs are applied light goes out. Gearbox seems to operate nearly normal with the occasional jerky shift other than that seems fine.

I have read manual regarding top up or oil replacement. What I would like to know is if it's possible to refill box accurately without the use of oil temp diagnostic kit.

Can somebody correct me if I am wrong but as gearbox drain hole is fitted with a tube that runs inside , I believe all you will need to do is fill gearbox with drain plug removed until oil level goes over tube. Fit plug warm box up , remove plug , drain out excess oil.

I would appreciate some guidance from somebody that actually knows what he is talking about before I proceed with my hair brained scheme described above.

Oh car has done 74000 miles

Cheers

Limp Home Mode - Petrol Smell?

Hi All

Don't seem to have had a lot of response to this thread, perhaps too many questions on one post!

http://ift.tt/SM3KWA

So, firstly, would limp home mode create the petrol smell I am getting?

Searched the forum, but most people's problems with loss of power seem to be different in that

A) they cut out completely

B) they get a dashboard warning light

C) I haven't seen anybody mention petrol smell

As it's intermittent, I know I might struggle to get a diagnostics result on it, so looking for a things to try?

Please help, I daren't drive on big roads anymore!

Thanks

air con pressure sensor reading wrong

Hi all

I have had a lot of problems with my air con and heaters not working.

It has been in and out of the dealers trying to fix it.

they said it would be the pressure sensor or air con ecu.

I changed the pressure sensor, but that did not work (one from a parts place off the bay)

It turns out the air con ecu is the wrong one in the car, and someone fitted it with a second hand unit and it would not work.

Renault ordered me in a new air con ecu, and I went to have it fitted today, but the tech bloke said it is still reading only 1 bar of pressure and even with the new ecu it will not work.

He thinks that there is a corroded wire somewhere, as if one was broken, or a plug in in correct, then it would show up on the Can Clip.

I have it booked back in on friday for then to see if they can find corroded the wire/pressure fault.

Has anyone had a problem like this before?

thanks

Split cooling hose

Nicole (Clio I 1.9D) did a naughty last night on a blustery M11 on the bank holiday... Girlfriend was driving and saw the temperature warning light instantly and got us onto the hard shoulder within seconds. A comedy cloud of steam later and it was clear a hose had split. I got the RAC on its way. I was very pleased that he decided to have a go at a repair and didn't just tow us.

The pipe concerned is dead straight, about six inches or so long, from the side of the cylinder head back towards the header tank. Instead of replacing the pipe RAC man wrapped the hole round with some "special stuff". As it transpired it wasn't quite special enough... By the time I'd got home there wasn't much in the header tank again, so I'm now stranded till it's fixed.

Now....advice please: should i be procuring some special Renault pattern part, or will any old coolant hose of the appropriate diameter do? Do they come in standard sizes - it looks about 30mm across external diameter? Does anyone know how much antifreeze I'll need to make up a 50-50 mixture?

Is there anything else likely to have been messed up by overheating that I should watch out for?

Thank you!

Geoffrey

Laguna1 2.2td over heating

I have a strange problem with my 98 laguna 2.2dt, the car starts well, drives fine on the flat and has plenty of power when you put your foot down, the problem starts when I go to climb the mountain to my house, within about 500 yards the temperature shoots up and the overheat light comes on, the radiator fans kick in as they should but it's still not enough to lower the temperature, I end up having to pull over and wait until the temperature on the gauge goes down to about halfway before I set off again, 500 yards later I have to stop again this goes on until I finally make it home after about 5 stops, there's a smell of hot coolant when I stop with a small whisp of what I assume is steam coming from the reservoir cap but no other obvious signs of leaks.

I have a list of thing's to check including head gasket, EGR valve, turbo, waterpump and I also wonder if it might be an airlock after a coolant change, although it's an old car it's in good condition with lowish milage and is normaly problem free.

I'm tempted to pull the engine out and do a complete stripdown and rebuild to see if I can pinpoint the problem but before I go to such an extreme measure I wonder if anyone here has any ideas?

Clio III roof bars question.

Hi All, my question is this; will roof bars for a 2005-on Clio III fit my facelift 2012 '62' Clio III (3 door)?

Did the mounting points change or move? Or am I correct in thinking that the facelift changes were only to bumpers and lights as most Renault facelifts?

This is what I was going to buy BTW

Thanks in advance.

Oh, and seller can't confirm one way or the other.

Runaway engine damage 1.9dci

I am considering buying a laguna2 1.9 dci that suffered a runaway engine and now has no compression. I am wondering if anyone can tell me what is typically found in this case. Is there a good chance that it just bent the valves or do they often put holes in the pistons? I will try turning it over by hand and feel if it seems there are valve heads rattling around inside. If it feels smooth for two full rotations I might be tempted to buy it cheap. I have also read here that when the engine goes runaway it can burn the injector tips. How likely is that and would it be obvious if I pull an injector to see if it is burnt? I have many years experience in gasoline engine rebuilds while living in the US but now that I am in Europe I am getting my diesel experience. Thanks for any replies

Engine timing

I have just had my Kangoo K7J engine overhauled.

When reinstalling I noticed the following:

The number 1 cylinder is the one nearest the flywheel, this seems to be uncommon.

The leads on the coil are fitted as if the number 1 cylinder is at the timing belt side. I got the car like that. According to manuals the computer knows which cylinder is where and when to spark.

My question is: Does this setup affect anything or should I change all back to original according to manual?

Irish Divorce

The mother-in-law arrives home from the shops to find her son-in-law Paddy in a steaming rage and hurriedly packing his suitcase.

"What happened Paddy?" she asks anxiously.

“What happened?? I'll tell you what happened! I sent an e-mail to my wife telling her I was coming home today from my fishing trip.

I get home ... and guess what I found? Yes, your daughter, my wife Jean, naked with Joe Murphy in our marital bed!

This is unforgivable, the end of our marriage. I'm done. I'm leaving forever!"

“Ah now, calm down, calm down Paddy!" says his mother-in-law.

"There is something very odd going on here. Jean would never do such a thing! There must be a simple explanation.

I'll go speak to her immediately and find out what happened."

Moments later, the mother-in-law comes back with a big smile.

“Paddy. I told you there must be a simple explanation ... she never got your e-mail!"

Koleos Errors, all sorts, Renault stumped

Hi folks!

We've had our 2008 Koleos 2.0dCi for a few years now, no problems. Soon before it's service, a "Check Parking Brake" error appeared although it works perfectly. Then intermittently "Check Fuel Injection" then sometimes "Check Speed Limiter". Everything works fine, and when restarted, the only message that always appears is Check parking Brake.

Anyway, took it in for it's service and asked them to check. They said it needed a new battery and brake callipers and they cleared the errors. Within a day they reappeared, took it back, and reset. Same thing twice more. They now want to replace the brake switch/sensor which will cost about $800, and if it doesn't work, it's at my risk. They seem to be fixing by trial & error at my cost.

Any ideas on what to try, the Renault Dealer has given up and told me to take it to another Dealer, but more $$$ to get it checked out. Everything works and runs fine, just the intermittent error lights keep appearing. They say Clip reports no errors?

Please, any ideas would really be appreciated, and now Renault has thrown in the towel...:confused::confused:

Thank, Gary

Kangoo immobiliser/starter motor

Hi all,

I'm no mechanic but hopefully someone can help...

V reg Kangoo 1.4 petrol.

When turning ignition key I get lights on the dash, the immobiliser goes out after a few seconds along with another light (I think plug lights?) the final key turn to turn the start motor results in nothing.

This happned the other day but after a few trys the engine started up beautifully as normal but today the engine will not even turn over.

I've tried the trick of pressing the button on the key fob while turning ignition key - there is some petrol there and the battery is less than 1 year old.

Can anyone suggest what is happening and how to solve?

There has been no obvious indication in deterioration of any components and nothing has been replaced recently.

Many many thanks in advance.

Hello!!

Hello Renault forum peeps. I have just purchased this Renault thing.Trafic 2.0 dci115 2010. I have already changed the dash for the 2012 version. Various different ideas and comments on these but so far I am finding it quite cheap to sort out. Not sure if all people see it the same but I do.

Anyway, I want to browse this plentiful land of Renault forum.

Thankyou and goodnight!

Megane 2 sport tourer using water...

Hi all,

My 2005 mk2 megane 1.6 16v sport tourer has done just over 100000 miles and after a recent 270 mile trip I noticed the temp gauge fluctuating from mid way to high and the fan was cutting in regularly.

At first I thought it was a dodgy gauge but thought I'd check the water level - 3 full kettles later it was back to normal. Did the same journey home and sure enough another 3 kettles of water!

I can't find evidence of a leak anywhere and took off the oil cap to check condition of oil and it was black and no sludge.

During normal local driving its taking about a litre every two or three days.

Can anyone suggest where to look next? It had a recent cambelt change but that was before I bought it. Could it be radiator or water pump I'm really not sure and am hopig to avoid a costly search by a dealer.

Cheers! :-)

2010 1.9DCi Servicing/Maintenance Questions

Hey guys,

So i've been looking for some servicing information with the Megane approaching the big 70k in the next week or so meaning the timing belt will need doing soon. I've done some searching but all I seem to find is information on the 1.5DCi.

Problem is I've been struggling to find the recommended mileage for a timing belt change, unfortunately for me I brought the car from carcraft who did not bother to give me the service manual (just their own crappy one) and when I asked all I got was with most cars it's around 85k. The car has a performance remap and I do a lot of miles so I generally like to get things done earlier rather than later, hell the car gets serviced every 8-10k.

So yeah any info would be great as I don't trust carcraft, the last botch up they made was they cross-threaded the negative terminal on the battery causing my car to stop working after parking it up... Yeah... those monkeys can't be trusted.

Thanks.

Old member, new(er) car (and It's a bloomin Ford)

Hello friendly Renault folk!

I'm still here in spirit! In fact at the moment I'm bringing a 2002 Clio 1.6 16v Dynamique back to life - the FAQs shall come in most handy :)

Yes the end has come for the mighty Vauxhall; cavalier that some longer-standing members are sure to remember. After 6 years and 27000 miles of pretty much trouble free banger motoring the Cav got turned into coke cans this last week. I've never been attached to any car I have ever owned but yes its passing made me just a little upset. But she was rusty, the exhaust was blowing, the clutch was probably paper thin.... 6 years of motoring for less than some people spend in a year on HPI for their new cars... Anyway too much money needed to spend on it really so she had to go :( I replaced it with this 'ere Mondeo which cost so little money it is ridiculous. I'm certain that, reliability wise, it is no match for the Cav. Time will tell.

So hello again to you all, I'll be pestering for Clio questions I'm sure (but I'll try not to!) :o

3.0l diesel Espace

Just thought I would share an experience regarding the above vehicle , recently went to a local supermarket and put in £50 diesel , within 200m of fuel station car went into limp mode and dash read "emission fault " and "injector fault " was obviously sluggish and gutless . I drained the fuel and checked it and the tank for contamination but all seemed fine , after a week of clearing the faults via EBD socket, I put in £50 of Shell top grade diesel and 2 days later after another £50 of Shell the fault cleared itself , beware of low quality diesel in these engines and also running them low as after exiting roundabouts mine also suffers with fuel starvation when on the last bar , although gauge shows 70km fuel in reserve , we also have the overheating problem/ cold heater problem losing water I now check and top up daily if required . Suspect leaking Heater or drawing air in from somewhere , new Rad fitted already. Any ideas suggestions on the overheat problem ?

Clio speedo problem

Hi, My daughters clio has a speedo which has just stopped working. The clio is a 2000 1.4 sport model. I do not think it has abs but am more than willing to be corrected on this.

I have renewed the speedo sensor from the gearbox....no difference. I then noticed that one of the three wires from the top of the sensor was not connected. I reconnected this using a plastic block connector....nothing. I have noted that the other two wires are connected using the red male/ female push type connectors and look green. I would reconnect these using block connectors as well but do not want to just go around chopping wires if they are not the cause.

Does anyone have any idea as to what may be causing the speedo not to work.

Thanking you.

The affair

For several years, a man was having an affair with an Italian woman.. One night, she confided in him that she was pregnant.

Not wanting to ruin his reputation or his marriage, he said he would pay her a large sum of money if she would go to Italy to secretly have the child.

Furthermore, if she stayed in Italy to raise the child, he would also provide child support until the child turned 18.

She agreed, but asked how he would know when the baby was born. To keep it discreet, he told her to simply mail him a post card, and write 'Spaghetti'

on the back. He would then arrange for the child support payments to begin.

One day, about 9 months later, he came home to his confused wife. 'Honey, she said, 'you received a very strange post card today.'

'Oh, just give it to me and I'll explain it later,' he said. The wife obeyed and watched as her husband read the card, turned white, and fainted.

On the card was written:

Spaghetti, Spaghetti, Spaghetti, Spaghetti, Spaghetti.

Three with meatballs, two without.

Send extra sauce.

Cylinder head gasket changed now it lacks power

Hi

The car suffered from an oil leak and sometimes cut out for a moment. It was not a big deal and the car ran well.

When my wife was visiting family she was recommended to use this ex Renault mechanic. He had a look and said the head gasket had gone.

He did the work and my wife took it back because it did not seem right. The mechanic will not do anything about it.

So this is what I'm left with. The car will not do more than 75mph. The turbo will not kick in unless I pump the accelerator. There is a noise like a bearing sound in the area of the cambelt and if I rev the engine hard a warning CHECK INJECTION appears.

While doing the work a cover has been lost. Most of the fastners for the inner wheel arch missing, Excessively tight wheel bolts complete with broken wheel locking adapter. Over tensioned timing belt.

I have replaced the timing belt. Renault garage did a diagnostic and found no faults. Anyone got any ideas!

Laguna 2 Instrument cluster needle removal

Hi,

Hoping someone can help!

I am attempting to fix a problem with my dash instrument cluster. I have the version with the dual LCD display in the center of the speedo etc and it has gone blank. having played around already I have narrowed the fault down to the ribbon cable that goes from the circuit board to the LCD display itself.

However, to fix it I need to dismantle the cluster further to get to the circuit board. To do this I need to remove the needles.

Firstly, does anyone know how to do remove them, with any tips etc to minimise damage?

Secondly, if i do remove them does anyone have any tips for re-aligning them?

I could get a second hand one from eBay but it wont have the correct mileage.

Thanks in advance.:d

Espace IV total death when START pressed

Hi guys,

You may be able to tell I am having a "negative experience" with my Espace at the moment.

I did try and search for an answer before posting this but failed.

I went out to go shopping. No problems getting in, inserted the key-car, pressed START and immeadiately every cut out dead, no lights or fan noises at all, total death.

I poked all the controls, looked under the bonnet, the 175A fuse is sealed so any defect is not obvious. After a couple of minutes I tried to lock the car, and the dash lights came on.

It then started fine.

However the trip computer memory has been wiped, and the stereo wants its key-code.

My money is on the battery being low, which I will check tomorrow as I did about 15 miles this afternoon.

 Any other ideas?

My customers car was running on 3 cylinders, fault coded it and there was a fault with no 3 injector, I changed it and coded it in, ran well for five mins and then back on to 3 cylinders, fault coded it again and there was a fault with no 3 cylinder again, to cut a long story short the high pressure fuel pump was worn and pumping tiney bits of metal swarf into the injector and ruining it, new fuel pump, cleaned all injector pipes, fuel rail and a further 4 new injectors and engine is running like good as new, be aware it's a costly job!

Coils for MK3 Clio

So my cars been 7 garages now. And is still misfiring and chugging. I have just taken it to a Dealer who changed all Sparks to all genuine Renault ones and it is still doing the same. They told me the next step will be for them to change the coils. Which I already find weird because surely they can investigate these things as opposed to just changing the sparks and coils like every garage does but hey...They were going to charge 400+ for the coils so I'm thinking I may as well change them myself for a lot less.

Now my question is what coil packs do I need? I can find a lot that fit and a lot that say they are OEM parts. It confuses me how different manufacturers can claim to be the OEM? If anyone knows what coils will be genuine or closest to genuine for my car then please let me know as Google is doing nothing but give me a headache. It is a Clio mk3 2006 1.4 Petrol.

My Grand Scenic 2 sounds like an airplane!

Hi guys

I was hoping someone could advise me.

Our 2004 Renault Grand Scenic sounds like an airplane while its driving.

I have read through the forums and it has the startup noise which would appear to be that mentioned in the forums about a "dephaser" - the noise disappears after a few seconds and the car will idle silently. We mentioned it to our mechanic a couple of years ago and said it was an expensive fix but that if we could live with it it wouldnt really affect the car too much.

However when we hit 40 mph onwards we get a noise like there is a hole in the exhaust - we got new tyres last week and had the exhaust checked and the garage said the exhaust was fine.

If we wind down the windows while driving it doesnt appear to be too loud outside but in the cabin its like a ships foghorn

Any ideas what it could be?

Thanks in advance

laguna lh speakers not working

Hi people, just got my Laguna 2, 19dci, noticed the lh speakers not working, I do not have any instructions for the stereo in this car and was wondering if there is a balance control, and how to adjust it.original unit is installed. Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks Tim

newbee

Hi people I am Tim ,nearly 52 years young and have just took a gamble in buying a 53 plate Laguna 1.9dci off eBay at £420. Cheap as chips but only 2 week mot. So shall know how cheap or not as the case may be on Tuesday when she has the dreaded mot. I have took a little time navigating around your excellent site so as to get a feel for it, and hopefully not ask things already covered by others. Getting to the mot issue my new gal has quite an unnerving steering issue which is fed back through the steering wheel, I suspect top strut mount and possibly a bottom ball joint. Reading through various posts I get the impression that the whole bottom arm has to be replaced as the ball joint cannot be obtained seperately. My point on this is not to ask advice but to mention that I have found somewhere ( I think ) that does supply the ball joints and three nuts and bolts. As I type this I have had a grey moment and can't find the details so will post them in a while. I have never owned a Renault before and just purely in my nature I will study everything I can about it, just a car nut I suppose. Later people.

Megane 2005 1.6 16V Engine Starts but Cuts out in 10 seconds

My Megane with K4M engine is starting well but cuts out in 10 seconds ALWAYS (regardless of Cold or Hot) and sometimes it stops when moving slowly or being about to move.

It can keep idling RPM well, if engine boosted up over 3000 RPM to pass for the 10 seconds.

After reading several posts here, I have checked & cleaned cam position sensor, crank shaft position sensor, throttle body and valve position sensor, Manifold absolute pressure sensor, inlet air temperature sensor and Battery which is a little bit low 11.8~12.2V. The oxygen sensors on catalyst unit show variant 0~0.9v(INLET) and steady 0.4v(OUTLET).

Apparently all the above parts seemed in normal working range.

When I checked the cam dephaser solenoid valve, the operating voltage from ECU found strange:

When engine starts it is 0V, then increasing gradually after about 8 seconds of idling, which causing RPM reduced slowly and finally engine cuts out at about 7V at time of 10 seconds.

My understanding is the cam dephaser is to be activated when running at higher RPM like 3000~5000.

When I tried to start engine with the solenoid wire off, it starts and KEEPS a stable RPM.

My question is Why the ECU activates the dephaser solenoid by 7V or higher just after 10 seconds of Engine starting.

What factors(sensor inputs) are related to the calculation of voltage value of dephaser solenoid, or what is change-over logic from ECU IDLING MODE to LIGHT LOAD MODE? (if such detail information is available) then I may check further to resolve this trouble completely.

Or should I need to go Renault Service for ECU reprogramming or replacement because it is a kind of proven trouble of Megane 2 by the manufacturer?

Temporarily my car is running well with cam solenoid off and I can not find any trouble when driving for daily activity except Engine fault light ON(Check injection) in dash board.

Any advice will be much appreciated.

Thanks.

Electronic Parking Brake question

Hi all!

Apologies in advance if this has already been covered, but I think this is a bit of a strange "problem".

The car is a 2006 Grand Scenic (Phase 1)

Basically, sometimes when the parking brake is applied, if you open the boot and close it, the parking brake whirs tighter again. If you open/close the boot again, it whirs again, and then comes up with "Service, Check Parking Brake", and the dashboard beeps continuously. The fault disappears then after about 30 seconds or so.

This doesn't happen all the time, however, I am a bit concerned in case the unit is beginning to fail.

Also, most of the time when the parking brake is applied, once it whirs, there is a click from the back of the car, presumably from the braking system?

Also, if you start the car with the brake, the handbrake whirs tighter too.

I was wondering if anyone could tell me if this is normal behaviour? Or is it a sign of something about to go majorly wrong?

Many thanks!! :)

clio no communication with airbag ecu ?

I have just got a 2004 1.2 clio that has the airbag light on, I have plugged my code reader that normally reads airbags fine ( does on my other clios) .

I think who ever sold the car new there where problems, when i originally got the car all the light where on on the dash but i found a plug disconnected on the dash once the plug is reconnected it left the airbag light on !

I have disconnected the airbag ecu and found it had some liquid in it, i have bought another ecu but it made no difference.

The light on the dash doesnt go out at all, doesnt even go through test when the car is started.

I have read the info on airbags on this site which is great but i cant get any ideas, I have checked the socket for broken wires for what i can see, and cleaned it but no improvement ?

hi everyone sorry as a mechanic I'm a great chef lol but here goes I bought a 52 plate espace race 2.2dci a few days ago privately and it was driving fine but today I went on a run about 30 miles ther and 30 back everything was fine going but when I was coming back I got to a junction and when I tried to drive off the car stuttered and wouldn't excellerate then a weird looking light came on the display followed by the word service then the light went off but the car on the motorway I could only manage about 55 mph with foot to the floor on the gas pedal does anyone have any ideas please cheers rob

Replacing Air Bag Ecu

I have a 99 scenic and have been told that I need to replace the airbag ecu.

After searching on ebay I found one the exact same model number as my old one.

Have been told that as long as I have the exact model of ecu I could do a straight swap.

There are two sets of numbers on my ecu and both sets on the new one match up.

Can anyone confirm this for me please. Thanks

Air bag light ?

Hi guys just fitted a new squib on my

Magane vvt 1.6 2004 made sure it was all plugged

In I also did my abs as that was on too

Once started the car the abs light went out

Need a scanner tool to knock the light out or would it go out automatically ??

Espace IV suspension longevity

Hi folks

This is a bit of a chat thread. I have had a lot of work done, but as I didn't do it myself I have no pics or advice as to how to do it.

The subject is how long does the Espace IV suspension last, or any other car for that matter?

In my case the answer is not much more than 110 000 miles. We should also remember that the shock absorbers are specified to be changed every 50 000 miles, and I bet no-one does that.

To set the scene I have an 03 V6 Grand Espace. It has lived all its life in the South East of England, West of London. It doesn't rain much here and we have mild winters, hence our roads are under-engineered and after recent winters and funding cut-backs a mass of pot-holes, bumps and dips.

So you will not be surprised that I have had to have a few parts replaced as have so many other drivers.

You may be mildly surprised that the list this years runs to: 4 shock absorbers, two front strut upper bearings, strut protectors, two inner steering joints, one lower ball joint, one rear spring, (obviously 2 would have been better.) This is a lot of money, about a grand to £1500 depending on source of parts and labour.

Has anyone else had to do so much to their "older" car?

Have you been happy to do it?

In my case the cost was a great disappointment, however the affect has been inspiring. The car is quiet and smooth, it does not wobble and roll like it used to. It was always good at absorbing bumps, but now it regains control straight away. Pot-holes and other "features" are barely noticed where before there was a noticeable crash as we hit them. An irritating squeak has disappeared. Wonderful. :d

Also important is high-speed stability, I have yet to attempt a tight undulating bend on the M25 at 90mph with these shocks but I assure you its scary if the car is as stable as a bouncy castle and the concrete wall just 12" away.

I drive hire cars regularly and the Espace beats them into a cocked hat. I drove the Pug 3008 just the other day and its not as smooth or stable.

What are your experiences? :o

Cheers

Megane steering rack issues

Hi guys I have noticed a knocking noise from under my 03 megane when I go over uneven ground. Think I've found the problem. I looked at my ball joints ect and found nothing, but when I got someone to turn the wheel vigorously I felt it knocking from inside the steering rack. So I took off the boot and the noise is coming from just inside. Now is it a case of gettin a whole new rack or is there a way to fix it? Also how hard is it to do? Thanks everyone :d

Espave IV rear brake squeal

Hi folks

First the interesting bit:

I have had an intermittent fault on the handbrake - it has refused to release twice. After manual release it has reset itself without mishap. I was quoted £500 from the dealer plus several hours to clean up the brakes. Anticipating a £1000 bill I had my local mechanic replace the pads and clean and strip as required. Not unsurprisingly on an 03 car one of the pads was sticky due to build-up off rust. Those who had cars from the 70's and 80's will be familiar with that. I will keep you posted if the handbrake plays up again.

Now the question:

The disks look fine thickness wise, but have a bit of scoring and uneven wear as expected in a lightly used rear brake.

The new pads squeal occasionally, i.e. when I brake at the right amount, usually when gently coasting to a halt. Heavy traffic braking is silent.

I this a consistent problem with older Espaces? Or do you think its just that the pads need to bed in to grip the disk properly? Should we have installed new pad springs?

Thanks

edit: just noticed the heading is spelt wrong, could a moderator please correct it?? ta.

Diesel Laguna II - good buy/what to look out for

Hi all - been away quite a while. Looking at a replacement motor after my current one has been written off (non fault I may add :d ).

Looking for a comfortable cruiser and having had a petrol laguna II in the past I quite fancy a return with a diesel version for the economy side.

My previous Laguna was, in all honesty, a pig electrically (52 plate 1.8 Dynamique) so I must admit I am wary. However I loved the car itself and wondered if the later models, ie 53/54/55 plates were better electrically ?

I have seen a 2.2 diesel locally for a good price (just sub £2000) with FRSH 2 owners 78K vgc etc etc - so the question is are these later models more reliable and are there any pointers as to what I should look out for or questions to ask when I view it ?

Cheers in advance....

Megane ABS, STOP, Service and handbrakelights

Have replaced </SPAN> control arms, tie rods, CV joints and wheelbearings on my Megane. When all this was done a strange problem appeared. At 80-90 km / h (engine braking coming down from higher speed) the instrument panel beeps and</SPAN> ABS, STOP, Handbrake and service lights come on. Almost at the same speed every time. ABS function falls completely away. When i turn off the car and start again everything gets back to normal and the ABS works fine. Have gone through every single ABS sensor around the car with thorough cleaning. Around the same time that I changed all the parts i also fixed the handbrake. The wires had dropped out in the center console. I removed the brake calipers and went through them. Has anyone on the forum encountered similar problems and is there an ingenious solution? Grateful for any help. </SPAN>

Misfire cylinder 1 - knocking - engine cuts out

Okay, I'm new, tried the search function for my problems but they really never answer what I need to know, so this has probably most definatley been covered before...

Vehicle: 2004 Renault Megane Extreme 1.4 16v

Firstly

I have a misfire on cylinder 1...my question is really simple, Where is cylinder 1...does it go from left to right (1,2,3,4) or from right to left (4,3,2,1)?

Please don't say "the one closest to the flywheel" because I don't know where that is. (I looked on Google but no straight forward answer, and I have no patience)

Secondly

When I start the engine (cold), it will start then cut out if I don't manually give it some revs for a few seconds, is this the ICV? TB?

Thirdly

There is a knocking when im driving on rough-ish roads. I've just had both drive shafts replaced due to the "knocking" when you turn the steering wheel [Fixed]. I've read somewhere that it could be the subframe? any more info on this?

Thanks guys :mechanic:

Thanks.

Megane III EDC problem?

Hi all.

I'm new in the forums, hoping you can help me.

I am Looking for a used Megane Tourer, and tried one today with edc gearbox. I like the idea of automatic gear, but want to be sure it's as stable as a manual gearbox. The car had run 38000km, and was a 2011 model.

I experienced a bit of a 'hang' in the shifts between first, second and third gears when accelerating - sort of making the car jump, when the next gear took over. Is that normal?

The car also didn't chance the gear until it reached 3100 rpm - is that normal? And Can it be adjusted?

Hope you Can help me!

Thanks!
